Copia Launches ADSL Club

Promising to make Jamaica a centre for information technology, Copia Wireless Communications will launch its ADSL Club on Wednesday, June 16 at the company’s headquarters in the Island Life Building.

Bringing together 24 retailers of its wireless technology from across the island, Copia intends to build the group into a professional reseller network to promote its ADSL modems and networking equipment.

Chief Executive Officer Darryl Wehmeyer will introduce Copia’s state of the art wireless internet and broadband systems at the launch.Copia distributes advanced networking solutions in the Caribbean and the Americas from Micronet, a world leader in wireless networking.

Wireless broadband technology is one of the fastest growing areas in international telecommunications and allows the transmission of large volumes of information including moving pictures and voice communications.

Wehmeyer says the launch of the ADSL club will help to build the Micronet brand in Jamaica and expand wireless technology on the island. Copia is trying to build awareness about the Micronet modems in the Caribbean. These modems have twice the features and cost almost half as much. Wehmeyer states “Right now in Jamaica there is a demand for broadband, but few can afford to start using it.” These modems as well as other Micronet products Copia offers, will allow a broader market to use the services available by making the start-up cost more affordable.

A major partner in the ADSL Club is Intcomex, Copia’s exclusive distributor in Jamaica for its ADSL products. Intcomex’s Managing Director, Matthew DeLeon, will discuss relationship building at the launch between the resellers, his company and Copia.

The Micronet modems are already grabbing market share here because they are up to 40 percent cheaper than market leader Alcatel, and offer a feature rich wireless connection, routing capabilities and a VPN (Virtual Private Network) all in one product.

Cable & Wireless Jamaica, has already tested and certified the modems to work on their ADSL network for Internet connection. The Micronet models offer a four-port switch, built in firewall and have routing capability. “These new modems will make the initial costs of DSL affordable to more people,” says Wehmeyer. “And because Micronet offers an integrated product, Internet users will find setting up simple and user friendly.”
