Powerline Ethernet Bridge

Last week we spoke about the number of ways you can network your small office or home computers cost effectively and easily. In this article we are going to explain how to network you computers over the power line. Sounds a little too technical? Well you will never believe how easy it is; even I can do it!!!
Power-line networking uses the electrical wiring in your house to create a network. No you won’t have to deal with high voltage wires. Here is an overview of the technology used to make it happen. We'll also discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using a power-line network.
The Technology Power-line networking is based on the concept of "no new wires." The convenience is that with power-line networking, you connect your computers to one another through the electrical outlets. Because it requires no new wiring, and the network adds no cost to your electric bill, power-line networking is a quick, easy and a most cost saving method of connecting computers in different rooms.

One very popular power–line network solution is the Micronet SP951 Powerline Ethernet Bridge which features advanced technology that uses existing electrical wiring to transfer data between computers with an ethernet port. Thus you can share Power-line bridged cable/DSL internet connection across the entire Power-line network.
Pros and Cons
Here are the advantages of a power-line network:
• It's inexpensive - It uses existing electrical wiring so the cost of wiring and its installation for each computer would be cut to zero.
• Every room of a typical house has several electrical outlets.
• It's easy to install and it takes you through the setup steps carefully. You won’t even need an IT whiz to install it for you.
• Printers or any other device can be directly connected to a computer and shared.
• It doesn't require that a special card be installed in the computer (although there are companies working on PCI-based systems).
The new Micronet Powerline Ethernet Bridge provides a couple of other advantages as well. It is fast, rated at 14 megabits per second (Mbps). This speed allows for new applications, such as audio and video streaming, to be available throughout the house.
In addition
• It maintains the network's connections and speeds.
• It does not limit the features of your attached devices.
• All the necessary circuitry is embedded within the device, necessitating only a standard power cord to access an outlet.
• It works independent of line voltage and frequency of current.
• It includes encryption and password protection.
• In tests, it showed no signal degradation due to older wiring.
Here are some tips to keep in consideration:
• If your using a laptop, ensure that there is an Ethernet network card available
• In your purchase make sure to include an Ethernet patch cable
